Acharya
Dr. S.R. Harish Acharya, a distinguished co-operator, has made significant strides in the cooperative movement in Karnataka over the past two decades. Born on June 1, 1976, in Jalakadakatte, a village in Boliyaru, Mangalore Taluk, Dakshina Kannada District, he is the son of Late Raghava Acharya and Late Sumathi Acharya.
Harish Acharya's deep interest and concern for the field of education, along with his association with prominent educationalists, have been nurtured from a young age. His involvement in student organizations and active participation in student-beneficial activities demonstrate his passion for educational and student-centric causes.

In particular, Harish Acharya's role as an active "Karyakarta" within ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad) and his full-time commitment to the organization underscore his dedication to improving the educational system and the welfare of students. ABVP is a well-known student organization in India, and his involvement with them signifies his strong commitment to contributing to the betterment of the educational sector and the student community.
Dr. Acharya completed his primary education at the local government school and pursued his high school education in Kurnadu. Despite not coming from a family with a sound financial background, he completed his Pre-University Education by attending the Evening College while working. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce from Shri Narayana Guru College, Mangalore, and furthered his education with a Master's Degree in Commerce from Alagappa University, Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu. He received his Doctorate degree with a thesis titled "Role of Cooperatives in the Implementation of Gandhian Concept of an Ideal Village: A Study of Dakshina Kannada District" from the Department of Gandhian Studies at Mysore University.
He was selected as a Syndicate member of Mangalore University for two terms, first as nominated by the State Government and the second time as a nominee of the Hon'ble Governor. During his tenure as a Syndica.e Member, he made substantial contributions and introduced major reforms. He strongly advocated for teachers on numerous occasions, raising his voice in support of their rights in cases of examination issues and syllabus matters. He played a significant role in ensuring remuneration for teachers involved in valuation and addressing the concerns of Guest Lecturers.
At a young age, he entered the cooperative field and demonstrated his abilities by establishing the 'Dharmanagara Milk Producers Cooperative Society Ltd., Boliyaru' village in Mangalore Taluk. He also served as the President of the South Canara District Co-operative Union, Mangalore, and brought about significant changes, making valuable contributions.
Currently, Dr. Acharya serves as the Chairman of the Institute for the Study and Development of Cooperation. Additionally, he holds the position of President at Vishwakaram Sahakara Bank Ltd. He also serves as a Director at the Karnataka State Cooperative Urban Bank Federation Ltd.
In addition to his remarkable contributions to the cooperative sector, Dr. Acharya has demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities in the fields of politics, social causes, and cultural initiatives.
Harish holds a deep reverence for the teachings and philosophies of Swami Vivekananda and Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. He finds inspiration in their principles and practices, which emphasize the importance of education, character development, and service to the community.
